Before July 1 2007 there was less than 1000 solar grid connects Australia wide. Applications in the final month of the Federal Governments $8000 rebate was 30,000, so understandably from a potential customer’s perspective, it is difficult to know who to trust and what information to believe. There are more than 20 suppliers that have sprung up in the last 2 years including greendayToday. We come from a building background with combined experience of more than 50 years in the building and steel industries.
During the purchasing period of any product the important issues are:
1) Price
2) Information supplied
3) Delivery time
4) Customer support
5) Quality of the installation.
Listed below are some tips for choosing your Solar PV supplier.
- Do you feel comfortable that they explained all the complexities of the Federal Governments Solar Credits, Renewable Energy Certificates (RECS) and pricing structures to your satisfaction?
- What is the company’s background, what experience and technical expertise do they have to draw on?
- Did they state clearly how long after your approval, the installation would take? (If you’re ready to go, you want to plug into the sun as soon as possible).
- Did they arrive at your home for the property assessment on the day and at the time they said they would. (it is annoying waiting for people that don’t come)
- Do you trust that the company has the capabilities to deliver you a quality installation in a timely fashion, has a complete understanding of the compliance requirements and will deliver the backup service you may require in the following years?
Contact greendayToday, because we do all these things.
A few industry facts you might find interesting:
In 2008 the range of prices in Western Australia for a 1Kw solar electricity system was $9,500.00 - $19,000.00. In 2009 so far the price range is $19,000 - $8,500
We are in the industry and we don’t understand why the price varies like this. The only explanation that fits is that there is no price band; because it is a new industry and potential buyers are not informed well enough currently. We believe that an informed market will set a price band of $13,000 - $16,000 for a 1Kw system. MAKE SURE YOU ARE COMPARING APPLES WITH APPLES.
The solar electricity industry is not a mature industry and it will not be until the Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) is in place. We will end up with a consistent Feed in Tariff (FiT) across Australia, the means test no longer applies so commercial, business, developers, community groups and all home owners will be able to participate. It will also mean that there will be at least 10 new Solar PV suppliers in the next 12 months. SO CHOOSE WISELY.
