Electricity Tariff Options

Residential Tariff Smart Power Green Power

The intention with this page is to outline the different metering options and how they best suit your circumstance.

Option 1 | A1 Residential Tariff

The A1 Tariff is the standard residential tariff, available to private dwellings and used solely for residential purposes. It charges you the same flat rate regardless of when and which time of day electricity is used.
Table 1 - A1 Tariff Charges (All prices are inclusive of GST)
A1 Tariff Cost (Cents)
Supply charge - 38.23 cents per day
Supply charge - 29.68 cents per day (additional residence*)
Energy charge - 20.83 cents per unit
* Applies to multiple flats and home units supplied through the main Synergy meter

Option 2 | Smart Power

What is SmartPower?
SmartPower is an optional product that allows you to take advantage of variable electricity rates, depending on the time of use. By using power in the cheaper time periods, you can save on your electricity bill. To take advantage of the SmartPower rates, you will need to have a SmartPower compatible meter.
How does SmartPower work?
With SmartPower, there are four different periods of time when electricity costs vary: peak, off peak, weekday shoulder and weekend shoulder.
The SmartPower meter records the amount of consumption and the period of time when your electricity is used. The rate applicable at the time of day is then charged instead of the usual flat rate of 20.83 cents/Kwh*.
SmartPower rates are lower than the current standard residential A1 price between 9pm and 7am weekdays and all weekend. In addition to the energy consumption charges, a supply charge of 38.23* cents per day applies. The same supply charge applies to the current standard residential A1 price and SmartPower prices.
* All prices quoted above include GST and became effective from 1 October 2007. Prices subject to change at any time.

Option 3 | Green Power

To switch on to GreenPower, there is no need to change your current electricity supplier unless you choose.
How much you pay will depend on the percentage of GreenPower you nominate to purchase. There are many accredited GreenPower products, consumers can choose what proportion of their electricity they want to come from GreenPower.
You can buy 100% GreenPower for approximately $5.50 extra per week or pay less for a lower percentage that better suits your household budget. Your electricity company can advise you of the various products available.
It costs a little more to have GreenPower because you are supporting the development of new renewable energy facilities and investing in a coal-free future.
Choose your contribution and see how you will be making a difference.

Your EasyGreen contribution per bill- EasyGreen renewable energy purchased per bill units(Kwh)- % of the average household’s electricity converted to EasyGreen Greenhouse gas emission savings- equivalent to leaving your car in the garage for around:

$20.00 455 47.00% 10 months
$30.00 682 70.00% 15 months
$40.00 909 93.00% 19 months
$50.00 1136 116.00% 24 months
$60.00 1364 140.00% 29 months
$70.00 1591 163.00% 34 months
$80.00 1818 186.00% 39 months

Based on the average Perth metro household consuming 16Kwh of electricity per day and on a billing cycle of 61 days.
CO2-e kg/Kwh factor of 0.936 as advised by the Australian Greenhouse Office Factors & Methods Workbook December 2006.
Based on a medium sized Toyota Camry travelling 15,000 km/p.a. on unleaded petrol and resulting in 3.15 tonnes of CO2-e p.a. as per Australian Greenhouse Office’s Green Vehicle Guide.

What is NaturalPower?
NaturalPower is energy that is generated from renewable sources. These are sources that cannot be depleted or can be replaced, such as wind. Generating renewable energy produces no greenhouse gas and therefore has minimal impact on the environment.
NaturalPower is accredited by the National GreenPower Accreditation Program. The GreenPower logo is your independent guarantee that NaturalPower comes from genuine, government approved renewable energy sources. NaturalPower is sourced only from accredited GreenPower generated in WA and is available for residential and business customers.

How does it work?
All energy generated (coal-fuelled, solar, wind, hydro, etc) goes into ‘the grid’ and a mix of those energy types is delivered to your home. When you switch to NaturalPower you will still receive a mix of energy types, as it is not practical to install additional power lines just to carry NaturalPower. However, we guarantee the amount of energy you use will be sourced from renewable sources generated in WA. The benefits to the environment of delivering NaturalPower this way are the same as those that would be gained from delivering it directly to your home and it ensures you have a more reliable energy supply all year round.
Essentially, the more NaturalPower sold the greater the demand for renewable energy will be. This will help stimulate further investment in WA renewable energy sources for the future.

Where does my money go?
Synergy puts the extra money you pay towards purchasing renewable energy, which in general is more expensive to produce. As a GreenPower accredited product, all power purchased is from WA renewable energy sources, to stimulate and support development of the renewable energy industry.
